Providing ongoing advice to EdgeConneX Inc.(international co-location data centre provider with more than 40 data centres, operating in 30+ markets) on the acquisition and subsequent development of major co-location cloud enabled data centres in Dublin across multiple sites, with Microsoft as the tenant. We advise on the co-location leases, environmental permitting, energy and electricity grid requirements (including innovative power connection arrangements within the campus), temporary power contracts, construction, real estate, planning, finance and tax. EdgeConneX is operational and power banked for a total of over 170MW, supporting up to five new data centres in the Grange Castle Business Park, a major hub for Irish data centre development.
Provided Irish legal advice to Pioneer Point Partners on their partnership with Echelon Data Centres for an up to €1 billion investment programme across two sites in Ireland totalling 184MW in capacity, including advice on the acquisition of a site capable of supporting a natural gas powered energy centre.
Advised Fortum eNext, a subsidiary of the Finnish state-owned energy company, on its contract with South Dublin County Council to develop Ireland’s first large-scale district heating scheme. The project – which is one of the first of its kind in Ireland – involves a very high level of innovation and new technology, as waste heat from the nearby Amazon data centre will supply the heat to the network. The scheme will also operate as Ireland’s first not-for-profit utility and will make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions in the area, saving an estimated 1,441 tonnes of CO2 each year.
