Ireland as an Intellectual Property Hub

Ireland is a common law jurisdiction within the EU so its Intellectual Property laws are harmonised with other EU Member States. This allows us to file EU IP rights and means that our specialised IP team can provide a one stop shop for creating, protecting, exploiting and defending IP rights.

The Iocal tax regime and courts are also supportive of organisations wishing to use Ireland as their IP hub. The Irish courts have dedicated lists and judges for IP disputes which means they can be handled quickly, within a familiar court system and legal regime, and where appropriate relief can be obtained on a pan European basis. Ireland will also be holding a referendum in June 2024 to ratify the Unified Patents Court with many other EU Member States already part of the Unified Patents system.

One of the team’s key strengths is resolving IP disputes and we have won the Irish Trademark Contentious Firm of the Year and the Irish Copyright Firm of the Year award for a number of years at the Managing IP Awards. The team has also won the Trade Mark Prosecution Firm of the Year for Ireland at the Managing IP Award and the WTR Firm of the Year for Ireland demonstrating the strength of our trade mark prosecution and counselling practice at an Irish national and EU level.

Also, a number of tax incentives are designed exclusively for creating and exploiting IP in Ireland and associated research and development. We have significant experience working with our colleagues and clients to ensure that all commercial benefits can be exploited in Ireland.
