Richard is a senior Dispute Resolution partner whose practice encompasses contentious intellectual property law, contentious technology and social media law, on and offline defamation and general commercial disputes usually with a cross-border component.
He has over 30 years’ experience of litigation practice and has acted in some of the most high profile and complex commercial disputes before the Irish Courts.
Richard is currently lead litigation solicitor in the Commercial Court case of Data Protection Commissioner v Facebook Ireland and Schrems, in which the Irish DPC is challenging the Standard Contractual Clauses established by decisions of the European Commission as a valid basis for the export of date outside the EU and seeking to have the issue referred to the Court of Justice of the EU. This case could potentially have.an enormously damaging impact on global trade.
