Catherine is a partner in MHC's Administrative and Public Law team, with broad experience in advising on public law issues. Catherine has a particular focus on the powers, functions and duties of public bodies and has been involved in several legislative drafting projects.
Catherine leads MHC's professional regulatory team, advising on the conduct of investigations. Catherine also advises witnesses appearing before statutory and non-statutory investigations and inquiries.
Catherine is a contributor to MHC’s Freedom of Information Sourcebook, now in its third edition. Catherine is also part of MHC's privacy and data security practice, focusing on public sector privacy.

In addition to her administrative and public law practice, Catherine Allen assists many German clients of Mason Hayes & Curran on a variety of legal issues. She works closely with other departments of the firm in this regard. She actively maintains links with German legal and commercial entities, and is an honorary member of the German Irish Lawyers and Business Association.

Advising a number of professional regulatory/disciplinary bodies such as the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland in relation to matters falling under their remits.
Advising private sector bodies in relation to the requirements of the Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015.
Advising various bodies regarding the scope of the Property Services (Regulation) Act 2011 and assisting in the making of licence applications under that Act.
Drafting legislation (both primary and secondary) for public body clients.
Advising on a wide range of public sector information law issues, including public sector privacy, freedom of information and access to information on the environment.
