About William

William Carmody is Managing Partner of Mason Hayes & Curran. In this role, William overseas the firm’s global strategic direction, client engagement and service delivery, and international networks across offices in Dublin, the UK and the US. He has a particular focus on ensuring the firm is investing in the leading lawyers in the Irish market, to support clients with expert specialist advice, whilst sustaining the highest levels of client service.

William joined Mason Hayes & Curran in 2002 and was first appointed Managing Partner in January 2023 and reappointed for a second term in January 2026. This followed a period of continued growth for the firm across its Dublin, London, New York and San Francisco offices.

With over 25 years’ experience, before becoming Managing Partner, William led the firm’s Financial Services practice, advising financial institutions, corporate borrowers and investors on complex lending transactions, debt restructurings, finance and investment decisions. He also advised on the Irish law aspects of multi-jurisdictional finance transactions. He has particular expertise in project finance, including renewable energy and infrastructure projects. As a legal practitioner, he is recognised in the market for combining technical excellence with strong commercial acumen.

In his leadership role, he is committed to building an environment in which the firm’s people can deliver clear, practical and commercially aligned advice to clients operating in an increasingly complex legal and economic landscape, whilst developing and sustaining themselves professionally and personally.

Advising Citibank N.A as administrative agent, joint lead arranger and book runner, and Bank of America, N.A. as syndication agent, joint lead arranger and book runner in connection with a $28.5 billion senior unsecured bridge loan facility for Amgen Inc. The facility will be available to Amgen Inc. to pay a portion of the cash consideration for its €26.8bn acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics PLC by means of a recommended cash offer, to be effected under a scheme of arrangement.
Advised a syndicate of banks comprising Allied Irish Banks, Santander, Royal Bank of Canada, BNP Paribas and Commerzbank on the provision of a €250 million revolving credit facility to Greencoat plc, the renewable energy infrastructure publicly listed investment fund.
Advised Allied Irish Banks on the financing of iCare Housing’s mortgage to rent scheme, part of Ireland’s social housing and impaired mortgage resolution initiatives.
Advised Nordeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale on the project financing of Knockalough and Magheramore wind farms, totalling debt facilities of €137 million and electricity generation capacity of 75MW between them.
Will, alongside a large team in MHC, is advising the Irish government on the roll-out of the National Broadband Plan, in particular in relation to the financing and security aspects of the project, a government led initiative to deliver high speed broadband services to all premises in Ireland.
Advised Bank of Ireland on the financing of the acquisition and development of a portfolio of 4 primary healthcare centres in Ireland by MedicX, a listed healthcare fund with a value of €440 million which has 157 primary healthcare properties across the UK and Ireland.
Advised Ulster Bank Ireland on the financing of the €33 million acquisition of Beechfield Care nursing homes by the German based IMMAC Group, part of a care group with €1.3 Billion in assets in Germany, Austria and the UK.
