The new General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), which comes into force on 25 May 2018, marks a significant change in the EU data protection regime. The GDPR will repeal and replace the current Data Protection Directive, which forms the basis for the existing data protection regime. It will apply directly in each Member State, which should reduce the level of national variation in relation to data protection law.
