Robert McDonagh


Robert is a partner in our Commercial team and a core part of our Tier 1 ranked TMC and Privacy and Security team. He is recommended by independent journals like Legal 500, Chambers and Partners and Who's Who.

Robert works closely with leading companies in devising their data protection strategies and compliance programmes and dealing with security incidents. His clients include financial institutions, insurance companies, broadcasters, utilities and leading Internet companies.

He also helps clients navigate and complete complex technology and outsourcing deals.  He has developed a focused expertise in public procurement as a result of the significant public sector projects he has worked on such as the National Postcode project and the Grangegorman campus project. He is currently working on the implementation of the National Broadband Plan and Emergency Call Answering Services.

Representative Matters

  • Working with leading Internet companies, financial institutions, insurance companies and others on domestic and global data protection compliance strategies and security incidents.
  • Advising the Irish Government on the massive National Broadband Project – one of the most significant rural projects since electrification.
  • Advising the Irish Government on data protection, public procurement and the contractual matrix for the roll out of the new Irish Postcode System.  This is the first postcode system worldwide with a unique postcode for each property or residence with a postbox..
