Advise Evergreen on Ireland's Largest Biomethane Facility

Mason Hayes & Curran, PEI Global and Harcourt Capital are pleased to announce the successful financial close of what will be Ireland’s largest biomethane production facility, to be developed by Evergreen Agricultural Enterprises. The project has secured financing from Eiffel Investment Group and is scheduled to complete construction in mid-2026.

Once operational, the facility is expected to produce approximately 120 GWh of renewable biomethane annually, which will be injected directly into the national gas network operated by Gas Networks Ireland. Biomethane, generated from the breakdown of organic waste, is set to play an increasingly important role in Ireland’s decarbonisation strategy and energy security.

Mason Hayes & Curran advised Evergreen on all energy and project development aspects, led by Eoin Cassidy, Partner and Energy Sector Lead, and on the financing aspects, led by Conor Lynch, Partner, Financial Services.

Eoin Cassidy, Partner and Energy Sector Lead, Mason Hayes & Curran, said:

“We are delighted to have supported Evergreen on this milestone development. Once operational, this will be the largest biomethane project in Ireland at the time of completion. Projects of this scale are essential to building a sustainable biomethane sector in Ireland. Our experience across energy regulation, project development and infrastructure delivery helped our client navigate the challenges that often arise in emerging sectors, paving the way for a successful financial close.”

Harcourt Capital acted as strategic corporate financial adviser to Evergreen throughout the transaction, led by Alan Deering, who said:

"This project is a key development in Ireland's National Biomethane Strategy. It will process 165,000 tonnes of agricultural feedstock annually for conversion into renewable gas and fertiliser. Massive credit must go to the Evergreen team and advisors on their commitment and vision for a low carbon, sustainable future."

Conor Lynch, Partner, Financial Services, Mason Hayes & Curran, added:

“This landmark transaction, being the first project financing of a biomethane production facility in the Irish market, marks a significant step for Ireland’s renewable energy market. We were pleased to support Evergreen in securing financing from Eiffel and to help structure a bankable project capable of attracting institutional investment.”

PEI advised on the financing. Robert Kavanagh, Director at PEI said:

"This is a landmark transaction in a rapidly evolving market which required thoughtfulness and flexibility on the part of the Mason Hayes & Curran team."
