L to R: Daragh O'Shea and William Carmody

Leading law firm Mason Hayes & Curran has announced the appointment of Daragh O’Shea as a partner in their Financial Services team.

Daragh was first appointed as a partner in the firm in 2012. He then spent time working as legal counsel with Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, a multilateral development lender active in the financing of other financial institutions and major regional infrastructural projects.

Daragh regularly represents Irish and international corporates, banks and other financial institutions. His practice focuses on structured finance and debt capital markets transactions and he also has extensive experience of project finance, real estate (investment and development) finance, and leveraged acquisition lending. He has also worked on state privatisation transactions.

His significant experience includes providing on-going advice to a financial institution on its Euro Medium Term Note Program and the issuance of US$500 million worth of notes under that program. He advised an international financial institution on its participation in a US$1.3 billion credit linked debt transaction, the proceeds of which were used to facilitate a subscription for 13% of the issued share capital of a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic. He also advised one of the lender consortium providing approximately €1 billion of long-term financing to Fraport Greece in connection with its acquisition of a 40-year concession of 14 Greek airports.

Commenting on his appointment, William Carmody, Head of Financial Services, Mason Hayes & Curran, said “I am pleased to announce Daragh’s re-appointment as a partner in the Financial Services team. The international and structured finance experience Daragh has gained in the last number of years further strengthens our offering to our Financial Services clients. Our clients have access to an always growing group of expert financial services lawyers who provide legal and business advice that is strategically informed and aligned with their business objectives.”

Daragh added, “I am delighted to re-join the partnership and further contribute to the Financial Services team’s standing as one of the largest and most dynamic financial services practices in Ireland, with deep expertise in advising clients in all aspects of financing.”
