This week in our MHC Life series, we speak to Callum Kaye, a Legal Executive on our Real Estate team. Callum talks about his career journey and his favourite holiday.

Tell us a bit about you and your career journey to MHC – what inspired you to get into this career?

I started my career in law in 2015 after leaving college and was inspired by my experience while studying A-Level Criminal Law while at college. The whole field was intensly interesting to me and really ignited my interest in law. I was lucky enough to start my career in the Commercial Real Estate department in a medium sized firm in Bristol which proved even more engaging than criminal law and set my mind on real estate. I first heard about Mason Hayes & Curran from a Irish Lawyer who made my move in reverse, and her recommendation lead me here.

Talk us through a typical day for you

Typically, I get up bright and early to get on with the commute before the morning traffic begins, one upside of leaving at this time is seeing the beautiful Wicklow countryside in the morning! On getting in I will make a coffee (what other way to facilitate productivity!) and have a look through my emails at anything urgent for the day ahead. For lunch I try to get out of the office for a bit, I am very much an outdoor person and it makes a welcome break from my desk. After work I will often meet my partner for a walk in the leafier parts of Dublin, especially now summer… and better weather… is on the horizon. On the commute home I will catch up on world events and listen to music, the commute can be a very good opportunity to relax a bit.

What sports/hobbies/pastimes do you enjoy?

I particularly love walking along the South Dublin Coast with Seals, Brent Geese and Cormorants which are all great to watch. Normally I will try to find time to read a bit in the evenings, but as sometimes happens this just remains aspirational a lot of the time.

If I wasn’t a Legal Executive, I would be...

A geologist or maybe a classical historian

Favourite quote?

I have too many! "Acta est fabula. Plaudite!" In context and loosely translated as "The play (of my life) is over. Applaud as I exit". - Augustus Caesar

What books have you read recently?

Germania and Britannia – Tacitus and Parallel Lives - Plutarch

What's your idea of a perfect holiday/favourite place you've ever visited?

Anywhere Mediterranean, but Italy or Croatia would be my favourite.
