Digital Aviation Administration has Landed

The Irish Aviation Authority has launched MySRS, a new digital portal designed to streamline aviation filings and regulatory processes. Our Aviation & International Asset Finance team explores what this development means for industry stakeholders, how it will impact aircraft registration and filings, and whether the platform delivers real benefits for lessors, airlines and stakeholders.

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has recently introduced a new digital platform, My Safety Regulation System (MySRS). The platform is designed to streamline certain regulatory processes and will serve, among other functions, as the central portal for:

  • Aircraft registration/de-registration
  • Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) approvals, and
  • Passenger complaints

Hard copy/paper applications will not be accepted from 28 October 2025. The use of the platform is mandatory for organisations and individuals interacting with the IAA, as the paper-based processes have been phased out in favour of secure, automated workflows.

The new platform will allow:

  • Digital registration, de-registration and change of ownership of aircraft and UAS
  • Digital lodgement and revocation of IDERAs
  • Automated generation of application documents, with execution by the IAA and applicants via qualified electronic signature
  • Searches and the ability to request transcripts from the aircraft register
  • The processing of payments to the IAA directly within the MySRS platform, and
  • Delivery of notifications, messages, and status updates on ongoing applications

User registration

The procedure to set up a MySRS account is straightforward, provided the user has a valid email address. Users will be required to verify their identity by uploading photographic identification and other personal details. Following successful verification, there is a two‑factor authentication process that must be adhered to.

A MySRS account is personal to the individual applicant. In the event of change in personnel, a new account must be established. This may have to be factored into the timeline for transactions.

Aircraft registration and registry searches

It is important to note that for all relevant stakeholders, MySRS does not significantly alter Irish aircraft registration or IDERA lodgement requirements. It is solely a digital centralised platform permitting electronic filings. The IAA has stated[1] that the new platform is designed to deliver:

  • Improved processing times
  • Electronically signed certificates for download, and
  • Real‑time updates and confirmations to applicants

MySRS will facilitate the submission of new applications to register aircraft on the Irish Aircraft Register. Applicants will be able to upload and provide all required information, including aircraft details, history, documentation and intended operations.

Searches of entries in the commercial Aircraft Register can be conducted by users on the platform by entering either the aircraft manufacturer’s serial number or the Irish registration mark.

Users may also request an official transcript of an entry on the register. A valid reason must be provided for such a request, typically a legal or financial interest in the aircraft. The initial cost to obtain an official transcript of the relevant entry is €160, payable directly through the platform.

In addition, details of the full Irish Aircraft Register of registered civil aircraft may be downloaded from MySRS, which was previously available on the IAA website and is no longer accessible on the website.

Lodgement/revocation of IDERAs

The form for the lodgement of an IDERA has not altered significantly. Upon receipt by the IAA of all required and correctly executed documents, an e‑sealed IDERA will be issued to the applicant.

An application to revoke an existing IDERA must, as before, be signed by the Authorised Party named in the applicable IDERA. A pre‑populated request letter can now be generated using the platform, and the supporting documentation may be uploaded. For applications relating to pre‑approved revocations, MySRS will allow the uploading of documents for pre‑approval and enable the user to select a date for revocation. The approved revocation application can then be made effective via a secure link.

Where an IDERA revocation application is submitted with a request to deregister and export an aircraft, the existing requirements remain and the deregistration application must be supported by evidence confirming all deregistration tasks have been completed. In addition, the application must include certifications that any registered interests with priority over the Authorised Party have either been discharged or that the relevant interest holders have consented to the aircraft’s deregistration.

The ability to revoke an IDERA using MySRS is extremely useful. It represents a significant advantage of the new system, as it enables the Authorised Party or its agent to control the precise timing of the revocation of the IDERA. Given that aviation is a global, 24/7 industry, the platform’s functionality ensures continuous access and flexibility, allowing parties to act promptly and efficiently regardless of time zones.

UAS approvals

MySRS provides a dedicated dashboard for UAS operators, allowing users to access and manage key regulatory requirements. Through the platform, operators can:

  • Complete mandatory online training in an e‑learning environment
  • Register as a UAS operator, and
  • Obtain a remote pilot competency certificate

The dashboard also enables operators and organisations to monitor their approvals and licences in one centralised location.

Passenger rights and complaints

The platform also provides a centralised dashboard for passenger complaints for airlines registered in Ireland. It covers issues such as cancellations or delays to scheduled flights, as well as complaints from persons with reduced mobility regarding their experience with an airline. Through this portal, passengers may raise concerns relating to:

  • Delays of at least two hours
  • Unresolved complaints under EU Regulation 261/2004
  • Denied boarding despite valid documentation
  • Cancellations notified either in advance or close to departure, and
  • Cases of involuntary downgrading to a lower class

Comment

MySRS provides significant advantages to users over the conventional paper-based system of aviation administration, including:

  • Enhanced security, efficiency and flexibility
  • Streamlined processes, and
  • Real-time updates.

In our recent experience, the ability of authorised representatives to revoke IDERAs has ensured that matters are not delayed or constrained by traditional business hours. Where IDERA revocation documents are pre‑placed and approved by the IAA, the process operates more effectively, allowing users to revoke IDERAs and arrange for the deregistration of aircraft at a time that best suits their requirements.
