New Senior Counsel, Gerard Kelly

The Government has granted Patents of Precedence to 28 lawyers, allowing them to use the title of Senior Counsel (SC). Gerard Kelly, Head of our Intellectual Property Law team and Co-Head of our Dispute Resolution team, is one of only two solicitors in Ireland to receive the honour this year.

Patents of Precedence, which recognise legal skills and expertise, are granted under the terms of the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015 by the Government, on the advice of an independent advisory committee. The designation of senior counsel can only be applied on the basis of proven excellence and specialist expertise.

Gerard has been involved in many of the most high profile and complex IP court cases in Ireland in recent years. His practice is known for the ability to distil the core issues and take a holistic and strategic approach to resolving issues for clients.

Commenting on his appointment, Gerard Kelly said,

“I’m honoured to be awarded Patents of Precedence and conferred with the title Senior Counsel, and grateful to our clients, colleagues, the Advisory Committee and Irish Government for their confidence. This recognition reflects my commitment and specialism in resolving complex disputes for clients particularly in the area of intellectual property.
