What inspired you to choose law?
It was my parents who inspired me to pursue a career in law. Neither of them are lawyers or work in the legal field, but they instilled in me the values that drew me towards it. They always encouraged me to ask questions, to challenge things I disagreed with or did not understand, and to think critically about the world around me. Most importantly, they taught me the importance of speaking up for others, particularly those who may not have the opportunity or ability to advocate for themselves. Those values have stayed with me and are a big part of what motivated me.
Where did you study?
I studied Law at Trinity College Dublin. While at Trinity, I served as a committee member for the European Law Students Association, organising events such as the Frances Kyle National Moot Competition. I also joined a range of other societies including most memorably the Law Society and Hispanic Society.
I am looking forward to graduating with an LL.B./B.A. Honours Bachelor's Degree in November and starting my FE1s in the upcoming months.
What department are you working with at Mason Hayes & Curran?
I have been assigned to the Financial Services department, where I am supported and supervised by three mentors: a Partner, a Senior Associate, and a Trainee.
Within this sector there are a range of smaller specialist teams. For instance my area of work has been centred around development finance. It involves facilitating engagement between borrowers, lenders and relevant third-parties, to support the development of projects.
The day-to-day work always provides something new to learn. In addition you get the opportunity to put that learning into practice through a case note, group project and department work.

How has your experience been?
It’s been amazing so far, the first week involved a lot of icebreakers and events, giving all of the interns the chance to get to know one another before working together. This was followed by some informal talks with trainees and newly qualified solicitors to give us an idea of the work that goes on. After that, we were involved in our department work with our team, group projects with our fellow interns, as well as a case study to work on in your own time, or if you were lucky, a wee trip down to the courts to see your mentors in action!
Don’t worry if this seems like a lot to take in, you will have a detailed schedule to help you plan ahead and the support of your trainee buddy to keep you on the right path. I was lucky enough to get adopted by two trainees and they have been absolute lifesavers.
I can honestly say that I am loving the experience so far. It has been challenging at times, but the experience comes with a real sense of accomplishment. You couldn’t ask for a more supportive group of people!
