We asked June intern, Emily Ritchie, to share some advice for our future interns. Emily just finished her final year studying History and Politics in University College Dublin.
The application
The application process is a straightforward submission of contact details, your CV and a cover letter. It is important to plan and structure your cover letter well. University career guidance programmes are often helpful to consult for this part of the application process. Place a focus on why you chose to apply to the firm and for the interview remember to be yourself and express the areas of law you find particularly interesting!
Get involved
The firm offers a friendly environment for new interns to develop new legals skills and provide exposure to day-to-day operations of a leading Irish law firm. Throughout the three-week internship the firm runs many interesting talks and activities, getting involved and signing up to the various workshops and professional events is a great way to meet new people. This provides interns with understanding and new perspectives into the daily life of trainees, associates and partners at the firm.
Use resources available
Coming from a non-law degree background, I found the resources available at the firm such as the knowledge team and the library fantastic to gain a better understanding of the new material and research methods needed to complete both department and intern work.
Help out
Be open to giving assistance to colleagues in your department, it is not expected for interns to know everything. Offering help to colleagues is a great way to learn new skills which will benefit your journey to becoming a solicitor.
Time management
It is important to balance your department work and assigned intern work during the internship, through communication with your mentor and associate this is easily achieved. Assess your capacity for each day to allocate enough time to meet all deadlines.
Applications for our 2025 Summer Internship Programme are now open.
