31 July 2018
The awardees for the second year of Mason Hayes & Curran's Engage & Educate fund, in conjunction with Social Innovation Fund Ireland and the Government, were recently announced by Minister Seán Kyne, Mason Hayes & Curran Partner Richard Woulfe and Deirdre Mortell, CEO, Social Innovation Fund Ireland.
Suas Ireland Education Programme addresses educational disadvantage for children aged 8-14 years in DEIS schools, delivering evidence-based literacy interventions to support struggling learners whose needs are not fully addressed by Ireland’s educational system. To date, the organisation has helped over 3,300 children from the most disadvantaged communities in Ireland to improve their literacy skills through one-to-one mentoring and learning materials.
John Logue, CEO, Suas Ireland, commented "One-in-three children in disadvantaged schools in Ireland has serious difficulties with literacy. The impact of illiteracy on these children, their families and communities can often be devastating. Suas' ambition is to end childhood illiteracy in Ireland's most disadvantaged schools. With the support of SIFI and Mason Hayes & Curran, we are ready to rapidly expand our reading and maths programmes across Ireland - supporting 3,948 children with one-to-one mentoring over the next three years."
