Engage & Educate Awardee - Intercultural Language Service
09 August 2018
The awardees for the second year of Mason Hayes & Curran's Engage & Educate fund, in conjunction with Social Innovation Fund Ireland and the Government, were recently announced by Minister Seán Kyne, Mason Hayes & Curran Partner Richard Woulfe and Deirdre Mortell, CEO, Social Innovation Fund Ireland.
Intercultural Language Service (ILS) provides a free, flexible drop-in English language service for migrants. It also provides storytelling, drama and IT skills to tackle social inclusion and cohesion amongst multicultural Dublin communities. The project seeks to promote social inclusion for newer community members and to foster social cohesion in the communities and areas of Dublin City where New-Irish reside through intercultural encounters, activities, and events. With the help of a network of volunteers, the service offers a safe, social and welcoming space to help build English language and confidence for those most in need, and those without proper access to social networks in Ireland.
Commenting on the award, Peter Sheekey, CEO, Intercultural Language Service, said "The Engage & Educate award means that we can strengthen our business case and strategies in order to pitch for other funds which will mean we can continue to replicate our service by opening up new drop-in learning centres in other areas of need. We can now continue to provide our language, social orientation and intercommunity services to marginalised migrants into the future."
