Engage & Educate Awardee -  Deaf Education Online

09 August 2018

The awardees for the second year of Mason Hayes & Curran's Engage & Educate fund, in conjunction with Social Innovation Fund Ireland and the Government, were recently announced by Minister Seán Kyne, Mason Hayes & Curran Partner Richard Woulfe and Deirdre Mortell, CEO, Social Innovation Fund Ireland.

Deaf Education Online is a project created by the Irish Deaf Society which addresses the barriers to education for deaf adults throughout the country, through the provision of online courses taught in Irish Sign Language. This is part of the Society's Deaf Adult Literacy Services (DALS), which provide classes for deaf people all over Ireland.

Susan Whelan, Supervisor and Digital Media Manager, Irish Deaf Society, commented "The Irish Deaf Society is delighted with the funding and sees the grant as a step towards access for deaf people to be educated in their local area. Currently, deaf people have limited access to education and we aim with Deaf Education Online to provide accessible course content through Irish Sign Language so that deaf people have equal access to education."
