We hosted a seminar on Big Data and Competition Law on Tuesday, 6 September 2016 in our offices at South Bank House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4.
Data protection authorities have been interested in the privacy implications of big data for a number of years, but EU data protection law is about to get tougher, and the risks of non-compliance are increasing. Competition authorities are now beginning to take an interest in this space, and we’re already seeing cases where EU competition regulators are exploring whether businesses can breach competition law through their use of data.
At this seminar our speakers focused on what’s happening in the market, what’s likely to happen next, and how businesses leverage their data to compete effectively while managing legal risks.
Speakers:
- Trupti Reddy, a competition law expert in the London office of Cooley LLP
- Maureen O’Neill, Competition and Antitrust Partner, Mason Hayes & Curran
- Oisín Tobin, Privacy and Data Security Senior Associate, Mason Hayes & Curran
