Telecoms and Broadcasting

Telecoms

Though Ireland's telecoms industry was deregulated in 1998, Mason Hayes & Curran had already developed into Ireland's leading telecoms practice.

We have published the only Irish text book on the subject, Telecommunications Law in Ireland. Recent advice includes:

  • drafting Irish regulations to implement the EU Electronic Communications Directives
  • advising participants in Irish GSM and 3G licensing processes
  • advising client entering into interconnection agreements
  • advising ISPs
  • advising established and start-up licensed telcos and broadband operators
  • advising client entering into framework agreements
  • advising satellite and wireless communications companies on Irish regulation

Broadcasting

Broadcasting cannot be viewed in isolation from Telecoms. MH & C advises broadcasters in Ireland on matters such as infrastructure, privatisation and sharing, shared convergence opportunities, internet applications, mobile content licences and much more. This interaction between broadcasting and telecoms is likely to grow more concentrated as wireless and broadband technology advances.

The international legal directory, ‘Legal 500’ recently commented on our Telecoms+Broadcasting group by saying, “The firm has worked on a number of consortium agreements between universities and industry, and has been involved in major telecommunications infrastructure supply agreements.”
