Recent contentious construction experience
The contentious construction team has extensive experience of handing construction disputes. Paying particular attention to the early identification of problems and the provision of advice throughout the course of the project, the team ensure that clients have advice that can be acted on in real-time. Critical and prompt analysis of construction claims is essential. The team specialise in assisting clients to undertake proper examination of difficult prolongation and additional cost / damages issues in both advancing and defending claims. Recent contentious experience includes:-
- Acting for large contractor against major developer in Commercial Court proceedings concerning major city centre development. We obtained advantageous multi-million euro settlement before the matter went to trial.
- Acting for a major steelworks sub-contractor in claims against a large Irish construction company on city centre office redevelopment. We successfully brought the matter to conciliation and obtained a sum equal to the original contract value.
- Acting for a US private health care consultant in relation to disputes in arbitration with architects under international rules.
- Acting for a commercial developer / operator in conciliation and arbitration of dispute with contractor on city centre commercial development. Successfully achieved early and advantageous settlement.
- Acting for multi-nationals in relation to disputes arising in a variety of building and engineering contracts.
- Acting successfully for a number of mid-size / small contractors on advancing / resisting claims and achieving early and commercial resolution without need for formal dispute procedure.
- Acting for a range of UK sub-contractors operating in the Irish market in final account disputes on engineering and building projects.
- Acting for number of individual employers developing high value private residences in claims against contractors and consultants.
