John Gleeson is a Partner in the Litigation Department at Mason Hayes & Curran and leads MH & C Healthcare. He is highly recommended and recognised as a leading expert in medical law and medical malpractice with over 25 years of experience in this area. John was Managing Partner of Arthur O'Hagan solicitors for many years prior to its merger with MH & C and was responsible for leading its development into a strong niche practice specialising in the education, healthcare and charities sectors.

John's experience in the industry has earned him respect and trust among the medical and legal professions, he is frequently asked to advise on challenging and sensitive cases. He is admired for his no-nonsense style and has a reputation for skilfully handling complex and difficult negotiations. Much of John's current practice centres on acting on behalf of hospitals and doctors in medical malpractice actions and he has been involved in many high profile medical cases which have been the subject of media spotlight. John has developed a particular specialist expertise in handling complex birth injury cases. In the early 1980s, John worked with the Legal Aid Board and was for a time in charge of its Law Centre in Cork where he developed a interest in family law which he has maintained over the years. John also has a particular interest in Mental Health Law and is a Mental Health Tribunal chairperson.

• John also has a significant non-contentious medico legal practice advising and acting on behalf of both public and private hospitals and clinicians on a wide range of medico legal issues including patient consent, disclosure and retention of records, patient complaints and adverse incident reviews.
• John also has extensive experience of representing the interests of both hospitals and clinicians at inquests.
