John Minihane

Partner

John is a Partner in our Real Estate Department. He has extensive experience in the commercial real estate market acting for investors, state bodies, banks, occupiers and individuals.

John acts for a number of well-known retailers and leads our Retail Group – a client centred and sector focussed team of specialist lawyers familiar with the retail market and retail client needs.

As well as being a solicitor John is also a chartered surveyor and is a member of twenty years standing of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland. As a chartered surveyor he acquired specialist experience over ten years working as a senior asset manager  in Ireland’s property investment industry.  John was a member of the property investment policy committee of a major institutional investor.

John regularly contributes to publications of relevance to his practice and presents to client, professional CPD and industry seminars.

Representative Matters:

  • The Retail Group is the sole legal advisor to a number of large international retailers active in the Republic of Ireland; examples include acting:
  • for a major international retailer in establishing its first Irish store;
  • for a gents fashion chain (6 units opened in last eighteen months);
  • for a children’s wear specialist retailer in its establishment in Republic of Ireland;
  • in portfolio restructuring and lease re-gearing for a major international retailer;
  • in current lettings and estate management for a specialist retail service provider;
  • for the receiver in the disposal of leases in the Hughes & Hughes Bookshops receivership;
  •  for the liquidator in the disposal of leases in the Budget Travel liquidation;
  • John is the Real Estate lawyer to the Grangegorman Development Agency. The Agency is the statutory body responsible for the redevelopment of a 73 acre Dublin City Centre site as a campus for the Dublin Institute of Technology and a mental healthcare facility for the Health Service Executive. The projected build out value is €1.5 billion making it one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Europe
  • Acted for a global social networking provider in its continued expansion in Dublin;
  • Acted for a well-known IT hardware provider in taking substantial facilities in a South Dublin Business Park;
  • Acting for a bank in on-going portfolio management matters;
  •  John leads a Real Estate team in completing a significant due diligence and issue remediation for a bank in the transfer of loans to the
    National Asset Management Agency
