On 29 November, Mason Hayes & Curran held a Mock Employment Appeals Tribunal, in the Four Seasons Hotel.
The subject of this year's tribunal was on the topical issue of bullying and harassment in the workplace and was entitled 'Bullied out of work - a constructive dismissal?'
Attendees saw how an actual Employment Appeals Tribunal would be conducted. The hearing was heard by a presiding chairman and by an employer and employee member, along with opposing barristers and solicitors defending their respective clients' position.
The scenario of a young lady, who had been bullied in the workplace and who had ultimately resigned due to this, was played out. Attendees got to see how a tribunal works, with both claimant and HR director being examined and subject to cross-examination by both sides. At the end of the case, attendees also got to vote on who they thought should win.
The culmination of the proceedings allowed attendees the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine and canapés, whilst having the opportunity to review various aspects of the case with the cast members.
