Mason Hayes & Curran sponsor HIST Maidens Debating Competition Final

On the evening of Wednesday, December 7, we were delighted to sponsor the Trinity College Historical Society’s Mason Hayes & Curran Maidens, a competition which serves as an introduction to debating for first-year students. For the ten participants, the Maidens final on December 7 was the culmination of two months of preliminary rounds, involving over 250 students.  The night itself saw ten very interesting contributions and robust exchanges from the finalists, chaired by Trinity’s Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor in History and presenter of Newstalk 106 FM’s “Talking History” programme, Dr. Patrick Geoghegan.

The very high standard of speaking left the adjudication panel, chaired by Trinity graduate and Mason Hayes & Curran Partner, Niall Michel, with a very difficult decision to reach. After an hour of adjudication by the 7-person panel, it was eventually decided by majority decision that the winner was Sebastian O’Shea-Farren, a Junior Freshman in Economics & Philosophy. The runners-up were Caoimhe Stafford (Junior Freshman, Law & Business) and Naoise Dolan (Junior Freshman, Economics & Philosophy).

After a short speech, Niall announced the runners-up and the winner, who were presented with their prizes and trophy, respectively.

Mason Hayes & Curran would like to congratulate Sebastian, and all the participants who took part.
