MH & C Healthcare presented “Freedom of Information in Healthcare” lecture as part of a series of quarterly in-house lectures which will be run on topical issues for the healthcare sector.
The lecture was given by Catherine Allen, a solicitor and senior associate practicing in the administrative and public law unit of the litigation department. Catherine regularly advises on all aspects of freedom of information (FOI) law, including the making of FOI requests, processing them and dealing with appeals to the High Court under section 42 of the FOI Acts. Catherine was also heavily involved in the preparation of the Freedom of Information Sourcebook, a recent Mason Hayes & Curran and Public Affairs Ireland joint publication.
The lecture covered the important and complex topic of FOI, providing an introduction to FOI, including dealing with FOI requests, the relationship between data protection and FOI and dealing with requests from parents of minors and next-of-kin of deceased persons. The lecture was attended by individuals working in a clinical environment in a management role, as well as Risk Managers, FOI and Medical Records Officers. The lecture was also attended by members of the legal fraternity.
The lecture was concluded with a questions and answers session, followed by some light refreshments and further discussion.
