Dr Thomas Esselman delivered the second Mason Hayes & Curran sponsored masterclass on Thursday March 30th, at DCU's Ryan Academy for Entrepreneurship in Citywest.
Esselman, founder and former President of Altran Technologies, presented on the subject of “Innovation in Science & Engineering”. A subject he lectures on regularly at Harvard University.
Topics explored by Dr Esselman included:
- trying to demystify “innovation” and provide a logical process that can be understood and followed;
- how do innovative projects evolve;
- how do creativity, teamwork, and communications enable innovation;
- how can an individual become more creative and innovative, and;
- is there a “process” for innovation in science and engineering.
Although the Esselman masterclass focused on science and engineering, the processes outlined were applicable to all business disciplines, such as product development, marketing, entrepreneurship, accounting, and other fields. “I think the most interesting thing, is how innovation in science and engineering is related to making money in business” said Dr Esselman.
