Rory Kirrane, Partner with Dublin law firm Mason Hayes & Curran and head of the Construction Law team, will address the central issues and risks in Design-Build Contracting at The National Construction Conference 2004, taking place on the 30th September at the Pavilion Conference Centre, Sandyford, Dublin 18.

Some of the key topics to be presented by professionals working in the construction industry at this year's forum include:

  • Why does it take so long to get product certification?
  • Which construction sectors will provide the most opportunities for growth in 2004/2005?
  • Getting to grips with the changing face of tendering and Demographics - where are the growth hot spots?

Commenting on the position of the construction industry, Rory Kirrane said: "The rapid growth of the construction sector has coincided with an increase in complex building contracts. It is therefore vital that legal issues and clear identification of risk allocation are considered in the early stages of contract so that people know and are fully aware of what they are signing up to. It is ever more so as procurement of projects becomes increasingly sophisticated".

"A now common feature in both the public and private sectors is the use of design-build contracting. There is currently no Irish standard form design-build contract and the Irish industry is seeing modified versions of the JCT, FIDIC and other standard forms being used", he added.

Declan Moylan, managing Partner, Mason Hayes & Curran said: "We were delighted to come on board as one of the main sponsors of this event, which signifies the prominence and indeed strength of a growing construction industry and huge infrastructural development programme in this country".
