The year ahead for the Irish Life Sciences sector

Mason Hayes & Curran, a Dublin-based law firm, recently launched a life sciences practice, headed by Martin Kelleher.
Within this context, Martin believes 2005 is an important, if not critical year, for the Irish life sciences sector.
The initial seed money or "proof of principle" money raised by early stage companies in 2003 and 2004 will run out and these companies will be looking to raise additional more sizeable sums of money to fund future development.
These companies will also be looking to engage in licensing discussions with established pharma and biotech companies who can assist in funding development. Such partnerships will also help validate the company's technology in order to secure additional VC funding.
