The Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney T.D., has today published in draft form, the Medical Practitioners Bill. The publication of the Bill marks the opening of a process of public consultation relating to the terms of the Bill.
***CONSULTATION PERIOD NOW CLOSED***
The Medical Practitioners Acts 1978 to 2002 is the guiding legislation under which the Medical Council currently carries out its function of regulation of medical practitioners.
The publication of the new Medical Practitioners Bill is intended to effect a complete overhaul of the current arrangements, and the main objectives of the draft Bill are to:
1.provide an efficient and transparent system for the regulation of the medical profession;
2.protect the public;
3.create and maintain a workable balance between self-regulation and public accountability.
The consultation process relating to this Bill is open until 15 September 2006.
During the consultation process, Mason Hayes & Curran can prepare submissions to the Tanaiste and Minister for Health and Children on behalf of clients. In addition to proposing changes to the Bill in outline terms, our submissions would include draft amendments to the Bill in technical terms. Our legislative drafting experience and expertise will be of particular benefit to clients in this regard.
If you would like Mason Hayes & Curran to formulate a submission in relation to the draft Bill, please contact;
