Public Affairs practice launched

23 June 2006

Leading business law firm Mason Hayes & Curran has announced the establishment of a new practice area to offer public affairs support to existing and potential clients.

Mason Hayes & Curran will provide advice to clients on public affairs issues as well as assist in drafting, tracking and amending relevant legislation.

Brian Hunt, Declan MoylanIn recent years the growth of the Irish economy, the expansion of the European Union (EU) and the globalisation of industry have all led to increased levels of legislation.  Approximately 40 Acts, as well as an additional 900 Statutory Instruments, are made each year in Ireland alone and much of this new legislation has imposed an extra burden on organisations – from increased administration to rising compliance costs.

Led by Dr Brian Hunt, the team will advise clients on current and proposed changes in legislation and offer advice on the various ways in which they can contribute to the shaping of legislation.

Commenting on the new practice area, Managing Partner Declan Moylan said: “The Public Affairs team is comprised of legal professionals with experience of working in legal practice as well as in government and industry. They understand the legislative process, how changes in legislation can impact on business and can advise on the different ways in which policy and legislative change may be brought about.  Mason Hayes & Curran prides itself on being a full-service law firm and with the establishment of this innovative practice, we will keep new and existing clients fully aware of impending legislation and the recourse that is available to them”.

As the world market opens up, Irish organisations increasingly find themselves obliged to comply with both Irish and international law.  The public affairs team will assist in monitoring changes in Irish and EU legislation and will work closely with clients to develop appropriate strategies to effect legislative change .
