1. What is a typical day for an intern?
As one of the 2011 Interns said, “there is no such thing as a typical day in Mason Hayes & Curran.” Interns are treated as trainees in Mason Hayes & Curran, and therefore a day in the life of an intern is both varied and interesting. Interns are exposed to high quality varied work; their day can consist of research, preparing briefs and attending court, amongst other undertakings.
2. Why this internship?
The Mason Hayes & Curran internship gives graduates and students real exposure to the work of a commercial law firm. The quality of work and the access to fee earners of all levels is where we have received very positive feedback from previous interns. Interns are very much part of the team here. The work experience interns gain during the four weeks is an invaluable hands on experience which will be of benefit for any graduate when seeking a training contract.

4. Who can apply?
- Undergraduate students who have completed their degree or have completed one if not two years of their Undergraduate degree
- Postgraduate Students
- People who are currently in employment but have completed their Undergraduate or Postgraduate studies
5. How many interns do you recruit annually?
We typically recruit 20-25 interns, who work for a four week period in the summer between June and August.
6. What type of support/on the job training do intern receive?
Interns participate in a full induction programme which covers systems, II, library and research training. In addition, there are dedicated practice area talks during the internship so that interns get a better understanding of the diverse practice areas in MH&C. We have regular in house Continuous Professional Development learning sessions and interns are encouraged to attend these also.
7. What departments do interns work in?
Interns typically can be assigned to Litigation departments, Financial Services, Real Estate, Corporate and Commercial. Mason Hayes & Curran has a diverse practice with 33 practice areas, so interns get a great opportunity to be involved in many areas of law.
8. I am interested in obtaining a training contract, rather than an internship.
The Mason Hayes & Curran Summer Internship Programme is our sole means of sourcing trainees. Any candidates interested in obtaining a training contact with the firm must apply for the Intern Programme. Interview advice
Preparation is key – the more you prepare the less nervous you will be!
Be yourself, we want to get a sense of your personality; and the fit for the firm.
Be sure to have done your research on the firm.
Listen to the questions, and be clear and concise with your answers. If unsure about anything, ask for clarification.
Show that you are committed and enthusiastic about a career in law and that you take an active interest in current affairs and legal developments.
